Absorb an Assessment Fee

When an estimate is generated from an assessment that still has an outstanding fee, that fee can be absorbed into the estimate instead of being billed on its own. Absorption happens when the estimate is accepted: the assessment fee is marked as absorbed, the fee line on the estimate is reversed, and a negative line named Assessment Fee Credit Applied is added, so the customer can see the fee credited against the work they are approving. Whether it happens is your answer to Credit the assessment fee if the customer accepts this estimate, which is saved on the estimate when you generate it from the assessment and can be changed while the estimate is still a draft. The estimate page shows an Assessment Fee Absorption note that says which applies. Your company setting Credit Assessment Fees by Default only decides how that question starts out.

Deciding to credit the fee is a separate permission from editing lines, and it is checked when you make the decision, not when the customer accepts. Absorbing is refused for an estimate that has already been converted, and a fee can be absorbed by only one estimate.

Use it when the assessment is meant to count toward the work rather than stand alone. It sits between the assessment and the estimate, and the credited estimate then carries on to approval and work orders as usual.
