Service Radius and ZIP Code Coverage for a Location
When a business has more than one location, each booking needs to go to the right one. Every location has a service radius, and can also claim specific ZIP codes outright. This guide explains how the two work together and how to list ZIP codes on a location.
Before you start
- You need permission to manage settings.
- The location must already be saved. ZIP codes are added from the location's edit page, after it is created.
How coverage decides where a booking goes
- The Service Radius (miles) is how far a location will travel. Bookings within that distance route to the location.
- A ZIP code listed under Service Areas routes to that location even when another location is closer.
- If a location lists no ZIP codes, bookings route to it by its radius alone.
- A ZIP code belongs to one location only, so a booking always routes to one place.
Steps
- Open Settings, then Locations, and select the edit (pencil) icon on the location.
- Under Coverage, set Service Radius (miles) and select Update Location.
- Scroll to Service Areas. This section is saved separately from the form above, so you do not need to save the form again.
- In Add ZIP Codes, type the ZIP codes, separated by commas, spaces or new lines, for example 75001, 75002, 75003.
- Select Add ZIP Codes. Each one appears in a table with columns ZIP Code, City and State. A count shows beneath the table.
- To remove a ZIP code, select the X on its row and confirm Remove in the dialog titled Remove this ZIP code?. That ZIP code is no longer served from this location.
Tips
- On the Locations & Service Areas page, each row shows its radius and, when ZIP codes are listed, how many.
- City and state fill in where the ZIP code is recognized. If it is not recognized, the City and State columns show a dash and the ZIP code still counts as covered.
- Use ZIP codes when two branches have overlapping radii and you want a neighborhood to always go to one of them.
- A location's marketplace visibility is separate from coverage. A location hidden from the marketplace can still be the target of bookings routed to it.
If something goes wrong
- If Add ZIP Codes refuses a ZIP code, it is probably already covered by another location. Remove it from that location first, then add it here.
- If you add a ZIP code and the table does not change, check that you used a five-digit ZIP code and separated entries clearly.
- If bookings go to a different branch than you expect, compare the ZIP code lists on each location, then the radius on each.
- A booking can only be offered times when the location is open. See the holidays and online booking availability guides for closures and hours.
