Understanding Your Credit Balance

Credit is money that a service provider is holding for you. It might be a deposit you paid ahead of work, a payment that was more than you owed, or an amount your provider added to your account. This guide shows you where to see it, what each line on your history means, and how to ask your provider to use it or return it.

Before you start

Sign in to your customer account. Credit belongs to one provider and can only be used with that provider, so you may see separate balances for different providers.

Steps

  1. Open My Credit from the side menu. The page shows Total held for you and how many providers hold it. If nothing is held, it says No credit right now, with a View my invoices button.
  2. Each provider has a card with the provider's name, the amount available, and Oldest credit since. Where part of your credit is money you paid in, the card shows how much is available to request back.
  3. Select a card, or View details, to open that provider's page. It shows Available and, again, how much of it you paid and can ask to have returned.
  4. Read the History table. Its columns are Date, What happened, Invoice and Amount. Money arriving shows with a plus sign; money used shows without one.
  5. To use your credit, select Request service or Arrange service to talk to your provider about more work. To ask for money back, select Ask about a refund. Both open a conversation with that provider.
  6. Select All credit at the top to return to the full list.

What the history lines mean

  • Deposit paid: a deposit you paid became credit.
  • Overpayment on an invoice: a payment was more than the invoice's amount due.
  • Credit against an invoice: your provider lowered the price of an invoice.
  • Credit added by your provider: your provider gave you credit, for example as goodwill.
  • Applied to an invoice: credit was used to pay part or all of an invoice. The Invoice column shows which.
  • Refunded to you: credit was paid back to you.
  • Remitted to a state by your provider: your provider sent unclaimed credit to a state.

Tips

  • Your provider decides when to put credit towards an invoice, so it may not come off your next one on its own. Ask them if you want it applied.
  • Money you paid in can be requested back. Credit your provider gave you can be used for work but cannot be returned as cash.
  • Refunds are paid by your provider outside ServiceVisit, so ask them how and when you will receive yours.

If something goes wrong

  • If a figure looks wrong, contact the provider from the same page. They keep the record, and your history shows every movement so you can point to the line.
  • If you expect credit but see No credit right now, check that the deposit or overpayment was actually recorded as paid on your invoice.
  • If an error message appears instead of your balances, try again later or contact support.
