Adding Assets and Managing Your Portable Asset Inventory
An asset is a specific piece of equipment under one of your property's systems. You can add one to a property you have claimed, or add a portable asset to your own inventory and attach it to a property later. This guide covers both.
Before you start
Sign in to your customer account. To add an asset to a property, or to attach one from inventory, you must have claimed that property. The property must also have at least one system to put the asset under.
Steps
Add an asset to a property
- Open My Properties, then select Add Asset beside the property. You can also open the property's Service History, select Record Event, then Add Asset.
- On Add Asset to Property, choose a Property System and an Equipment Type. Both are required.
- Optionally choose a Manufacturer and Model, or tick I do not know the manufacturer or I do not know the model family and type what is on the label.
- Optionally add a Nickname, Serial Number, Installation Date, Location/Zone and Location Note. The zone list shows only if the property has zones.
- Tick This is a portable asset if it can move to another property, such as a window AC unit or space heater.
- Select Add Asset. You return to the property with a confirmation.
Add a portable asset to your inventory
- Open Assets in the left menu. The page is called My Portable Assets.
- Select Add Asset.
- On Add Asset to Inventory, choose a System and an Equipment Type. Both are required.
- Optionally choose a manufacturer and model, then add a Nickname, Serial Number, Purchase Date, Purchase Location and Notes.
- Select Add to Inventory.
Attach an inventory asset to a property
- Open Assets. Each asset shows In Storage and Portable, plus its serial number and purchase date when you entered them.
- Under Attach to Property, choose a property, then choose one of that property's systems.
- Select Attach to Property. You see "Asset successfully attached to property!".
Tips
- A nickname is only needed if you own more than one of the same equipment. Left blank, the asset is named from the system and equipment you chose.
- Serial number and purchase details are marked as recommended on the inventory form, because they help with warranty tracking.
- Only portable assets can be added to inventory, and only portable assets can be attached from it.
- Assets you add yourself are customer-entered DIY records, not verified by a provider.
- Portable assets appear in inventory when you add them there, or when you detach them from a property.
If something goes wrong
- If the Attach to Property area says you need to claim a property first, select Claim a Property.
- If you see "You don't have permission to attach assets to this property", you have not claimed that property.
- If you see "Unable to attach asset", the asset may already be attached or may not be portable.
- If you see "Unable to load your inventory. Please try again.", try again shortly. It does not mean your inventory is empty.
- If the property's system list says No systems found, record a system installation first.
- On the add forms, a missing system or equipment type shows a "required" message and nothing is saved.
